Why should I get a massage? Massage is the perfect antidote to the damaging effects of stress on the mind and body. It restores balance and a sense of well being. Massage helps release chronic muscular tension and pain, boosts immune system function, improves circulation, increases flexibility, reduces mental and physical fatigue and stress, improves posture and feels great! How does stress affect me? The hormones released during times of stress damage the body's nervous system and immune system, and accelerate the aging process. Chronic stress can affect our ability to think and concentrate, to sleep and to heal. How does the massage combat stress? Deep relaxation through massage takes us from the hyperactive "beta" state into the deeper, slower "alpha" state, like a meditative trance. In this state our bodies heal and recharge even better than during sleep. Why should I choose deep tissue massage? Deep tissue massage works in ways that lighter massages can't. It works harder to release toxins from muscles, reducing scar tissue and allowing them to heal. It encourages the release of endorphins, the hormones responsible for the "runner's high" people feel after strenuous exercise. It keeps you in that mental state just before sleep where your mind is free to totally relax and let go of all the problems of the day without missing the experience of the massage by sleeping through it. It's profoundly relaxing, leaving you feeling different, better, for days or even weeks! How will I feel after a massage? Most people feel extremely relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-held aches and pains developed from daily tension or repetitive activity. You may initially feel like napping, however after 10-20 minutes most people experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity which can last for days. Will I be covered during the massage? Yes! Soft, comfortable flannel sheets will keep you feeling warm and safe. Only the part of your body being worked on will be exposed. Your privacy is always protected. What should I so during the massage? Relax. Make yourself comfortable. The therapist may use some movement to encourage the muscles to relax. There's no need to help unless asked. Many people just close their eyes and drift off into that meditative state. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask questions about massage in general or about techniques being used, and let the therapist know if anything is making you uncomfortable (lighting, temperature, technique...) What should I do after the massage? Be nice to yourself. Try to avoid strenuous activities. Enjoy the difference in the way you feel. Stretch. Tell a friend how wonderful massage is. Make another appointment. Be absolutely sure to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water after the massage to flush out all the toxins that are released. No matter how late it is, you will feel infinitely better if you do! Call today for your appointment 215-340-0312. |
